This hand-tufted rug weaves together Yasmina Makram's private vulnerabilities with Egypt's Coptic heritage, transforming the metaphor of “brush it under the rug” into a powerful visual confession. Seven emotions, exposure, rejection, courage, competitiveness, fear of failing, perseverance, and gratitude, are encoded through contrasting textures and fragmented patterns. Ancient Coptic palm motifs merge with expressive human figures and birds, creating a layered blueprint where worn spaces reflect burnout, high-relief knots symbolize resilience, and faded finishes honor the distressed beauty of endurance. What is typically hidden becomes the very foundation of identity, a testament to the strength found in acknowledging what lies beneath.
