Founded in 1997, by Karim Mekhtigian, Alchemy Design Studio started as an interior and product design office. A few years later, Mohamed Fares joined in as his business partner and together they expanded the studio's creative journey.

Today, Alchemy is comprised of Karim Mekhtigian Design Studio, M-Fares Design Studio, Eman Hussein Design Studio, MOR Design Studio, Analogue, and Alchemy Architecture.

Rothko used materials far beyond the conventional range sold for artists, modifying the properties of oil paints to achieve the flow, drying time and colours he needed in order to apply subsequent layers within hours.

The “Rectangular rug collection” by Karim Mekhtgian which represents the layering of the past into the present has great relevance to Mark Rothko’s layering techniques.
