A playful use of patterns to highlight characteristics such as contrast of colours and shapes. A checkered board needs two opposing players to work together in order to make well-thought movements.
We intended to convey this in a more abstract way, by inviting the audience to interact with the piece.
The carpet is layered with a checkered pattern and detached strings in a complementary vibrant colour, to pop out. A layering that does not give or expose all aspects at once, allowing the viewer to reflect on what it represents.
Using an original pattern and modernising its key features is a technique to retrieve its essence. A design process involves breaking down a structure's key elements and incorporating outsider influences to create a more controversial outlook.
