For this collaboration with Kahhal 1871, the concept design was influenced by Modernist movements in art and architecture post World War I. Cubism techniques and the work of Fernand Léger, such as Le Grand Remorqueur, evoked the team’s design process. Purples, yellows, blues and brick tones were chosen to accentuate the flat geometric forms and simple overlapping shapes, bringing together an end product that reflects YM studio’s take on that era and moment in art history.

Fernand Léger is considered one of the forefathers of Pop Art. Léger first
became known for the unique variation of Cubism he created and dubbed Cubism for its use of cylindrical forms. In the hands of Léger, the aesthetics of Cubism became a democratising force, one that freed artists to explore colour, form and composition in new, unsentimental ways. This, he believed, was thoroughly modern. YM studio was greatly influenced by Léger’s Cubism technique, designing an end product that reflects the studio’s take on that era and moment in art history.
