The Dègrader rug collection by KAHHAL 1871 is influenced by James Turrell’s use of gradient colors and light. Each piece in the collection is uniquely hand crafted to showcase different colors when hit by light. Artist James Turrell is a leading figure in the Light and Space movement. With his colored light installations and holographs that produce awe-inspiring optical illusions, Turrell’s pieces usually look like cubes, flat planes, pyramids or tunnels simply composed by light.

Our Dègrader rug collection is inspired by gradient tones of color and textures of the earth. Each piece is produced to reflect differently when hit by natural light in order to add freshness to any interior. This idea was influenced by James Turrell’s art piece, Sojourn, where he manages to reproduce the natural effects of light and through this he appeals to the viewer that light is a central part of our existence where it drives us and nourishes us, affecting our overall mood, and consequently, the viewer is left feeling refreshed by his art.
