Art of living 2022

Presenting “The Nazar Amulet” rug collection by @ayayoko_ and @itsmounaz at the Art of Living exhibition displayed on the unique design by @karimmekhtigian, inspired by the ancient Egyptian symbol the eye of Horus.

Designers @ayayoko_ and @itsmounaz have centered the design of their collection on the culturally renowned Nazar Amulet from the Turkish heritage. The designers have always been in- trigued by the cultural myth and showcase their take on the Nazar Amulet by reintroducing it in a colorful and vibrant manner narrating its significance in a modern-day setting.

Building on the thematic Eye, @karimmekhtigian travels back in time and uses the Egyptian Eye of Horus to delineate the curation of the space. The eye of Horus is an ancient Egyptian symbol which arguably could be the inspirational emblem that spread throughout different cultures and morphed into differ- ent designs with the essence being a sign of protection and good health and life. Common amongst all cultures and throughout history is the association of the Eye with protection from all ills and promotion of good and safety.

@karimmekhtigian uses the different articulations and layers of the eye throughout various cultures and histories to narrate the all-encompassing eye; an eye from above protecting all and bringing all eyes under one with a contemporary narration.
